About the Developers |
To use Freestyle Solve, you must be using a Tablet PC running
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. If you do not have this, please
see the "Note for Non-Tablet Owners."
It's easy to get started with Freestyle Solve. Just follow these steps:
- Install one of the supported Computer Algebra Systems listed
below.
- Install Freestyle
Solve. Freestyle Solve uses Microsoft's ClickOnce technology to manage application
updates. Microsoft Internet Explorer users can just follow the link. If you are using Mozilla Firefox, please install the
Firefox ClickOnce extension so that you can install Freestyle Solve. If you
are using another browser, please see
this page.

Supported Computer Algebra Systems
Freestyle Solve uses external software to perform calculations and algebraic manipulations
for you. Here is a list of the software packages supported by Freestyle Solve:

Maplesoft Maple |
Maple is a commercially-available Computer Algebra System developed by Maplesoft,
a privately held company headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
None of the developers are currently licensed to use Maple, so we will not be able
to support new versions as they are released, nor will we be able to add new features
to our existing support.

YACAS |
YACAS is an open-source Computer Algebra System developed by a community of volunteers.
It is licensed under the GNU GPL and is therefore free to download.
Download a ZIP file of one of the supported Windows versions of YACAS. We suggest
that you create a new directory in your Program Files directory called "yacas" and
unzip YACAS to that directory.

Note for Non-Tablet Owners
If you do not have a Tablet PC, you can try out our software on a regular PC running
Windows XP. You will need to download and install the
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Software Development Kit 1.7.
